Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Tightness And Irritation In The Nose

I have been experiencing a sweet/metallic smell accompanied by nasal and respiratory irritation that has been ongoing for the past 5 days. My symptoms have not gotten better or worse since the initial onset. I first noticed these symptoms after attending a public fireworks display in which our seating location was quite close to the launching site of the fireworks. Nobody else that was with me at the show is experiencing any similar symptoms and appear to be fine. I am most concerned about the aggravating smell that seems to be burnt into my sinuses as well as the respiratory irritation. To remedy the chest tightness I have been trying to work it out of my system through exercise, which I’m not sure is helping. I have a history of exercise-induced asthma and am very sensitive to smoke and other chemical smells. These are really strange symptoms for me and I want to know if this is something I should worry about or give more time to let pass.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of Asthma you should not have sat so close to the launching site of the fireworks.

Now you are experiencing severe chest tightness along with nasal irritation, it is indicative of your Asthma getting triggered.

Inflammation of the airways may cause chest tightness accompanied by shortness of breath, coughing or nasal irritations.

You are suggested to visit ER, get physically examined. You may need oxygen or inhalers.

In the meantime take warm fluids to get relief from the mucus build up in your chest. Try to stay in open space outdoors so that you can breath fresh air. Avoid doing anything that will irritate your lungs.

Do not panic, stay relaxed. Get examined at the earliest else it may result in the worsening of the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
