Suggest Treatment For Severe Constipation And Blood In Stools

Hello, My stomach is constipated badly. Stool has become hard. Whenever I am trying to do a bowel movement, it s bleeding. I can t pass my stool. I haven t have a good bowel movement in days now. I had to go to ER on Jan 12. They did blood, urine test and did CT scan of my pelvis and told me that everything was clear. After taking some medicines, it felt better for two days after that. But for the last three days, I am constipated. It bleeds with every bowel movement. I have stomach ache. It hurts after a bowel movement and I feel severe pain and burning in my rectal area. I have been taking these prescribed medicines. Generlac 10GM/ 15ML Oral / Rectal Sol, Lidocaine 2% Visc Oral Solution, Naproxen 500 MG, Senna-S (Docusate / Sennosides), Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium Tab USP, Hydrocod/ Acetam. I am also applying Anusol HC suppository with Nitro-bid, petrollium jelly and Lidocaine ointment. I have been using these medication since Jan 12, 2016. Can you please tell me what may have been causing the severe constipation and stomach ache? What should I do? Should I go to ER again?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having severe constipation and blood in stools which could be due to many reasons such as eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, some medications like antidepressants, acidity and certain conditions like hypothyroidism. You should start with drinking alot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty, poor absorption and inadequate digestion of food , hypothyroidism and heavy meals. Blood in stool can also occur due to constipation , piles and anal fissure. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement psyllium, calcium polycarbophil , osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity . Doctor may recommend surgery in case of anal fissure or piles .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
