Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Lung Congestion

I have had a severe cough for 3 days. I cough sometimes every 5 minutes. Feels like the a congestion in my lungs and flem comes up. Sometimes the coughs are violent - even vomited a couple of times. Today was a little better. Coughs are around 30 minutes apart.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM.
The treatment of your condition will depend on underlying cause.Possible causes may include:
-Respiratory tract infections(viral/bacterial)
-Respiratory pathologies like asthma...
-Allergy/irritation by environmental irritants
I will suggest you see the Doctor for evaluation and investigation.A chest x ray ray, full blood count and respiratory function test may be requested depending on the diagnostic orientation of your Doctor. You may however try the following:
-Rest well
-Take a mucolytic like carbocysteine 5 %
-An anti-histamine like premalan
-A steroid like prednisolone
-A bronchodilator like salbutamol if obstructed
-Take enough fluids
Your Doctor may prescribe you antibiotics if argument in favour of bacteria infection.
Hope this will help
Best regards
