Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Neck Pain

My husband just started coughing whilst sitting watching TV, caught his breath, leaned forward then fell onto his knees. he thinks he may have blacked out for a few seconds. I helped him into a sitting position as he didn t want to sit down. Slowly he got up and sat in a chair and was quite clammy and pale. That was 15mins ago. He feels okay now but hurt his neck when he fell?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi your husband has experienced what is called - vasovagal syncope. It can happen on coughing , straining. Does he have persistent cough? is it dry or productive? if it is dry that is without any sputum he can take a cough syrup like syrup corex 5ml in the the night. I will advice him to use the syrup only if the cough is persistent and disturbing. Paracetamol can be taken for pain. I wish your husband good health:)
