Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Thick Greenish Phlegm
My daughter After having flu. Lingering cough, nothing much coming up but sounds like a lot of phlegm. The little that did come up thick and grey greenish. Asthmatic. No wheezing. Looks pale, rings under eyes. Just not getting better. How to tell viral or secondary bacterial infection.
The cough associated with viral cough and colds/flu can last up to 6 weeks so it is possible unless she is febrile and systemically unwell that it is still viral.
The exact cause of the prolonged cough is not known but it may be due to lingering inflammation in the airways.
The use of a mucolytic to help break up the mucus in her chest would help. Examples are bisolvan, mucomyst, guifenesin
If there is not improvement after the use of one of these then bacterial infection would need to be considered.
I hope this helps
