Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough At Night

My husband wakes up with a cough every night at 5:30am. My husband has not felt ill. He doesn t go to sleep with a cough. But for some reason he has a ransoms coughing attack every night around the same time. Could this be allergies? What can we do to give him relief?? Thank you.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

I want to know more about your husband -
- His age.
- Any associated conditions like heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure or cholesterol problem.
- Height, weight, BMI.
- Habits like smoking, alcohol.
- Day time sleepiness.
- Snoring.
- Any swelling over legs.

Usually this type symptoms may be associated with fluid retention which may be due to hear or Kidney problem.
But other conditions related to lungs, sleep apnea, allergies need to be considered.

Better to consult your physician for detailed clinical examination.
Following investigation may be required -
- Complete Blood Count.
- Chest X-ray.
- ECG and 2DEcho of heart.
- T3,T4, TSH.
- Renal and Liver function test.
- Sleep study.

Depending upon clinical evaluation and above test results appropriate decision can be taken.
