My husband has been diagnosed with pneumonia. He is 85 years old, has had COPD for 20 years, been a smoker for 41 years unfiltered cigarettes.Currently he is being treated for pneumonia, however, the medications given to him have done nothing. He is coughing a very loud and persistent cough. Sometimes mucus comes up but mostly it is just horrible fits of coughing. Now he is complaining of shoulder pains, rib pains and loss of appetite. I am worried he has lung cancer. What should I ask his Primary Care Physician do? He has been sicker than usual since Christmas.
