Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough

I may have been exposed to Hep C as a result of being in close contact with an infected person. I have provided manicures and pedicures, as well as been in this person s presence when he suffered from a VERY bad cough. I was recently vaccinated against He A & B, as well as received a flu shot and a TB test (that test was negative) at a public health clinic, because I was uninsured at the time. Do you recommend that I be tested for Hep C, and what would be the best treatment options for an otherwise healthy female, 69 years of age, who never smokes and drinks socially less that 2 drinks per week)?

Hello and welcome to HCM.
Hepatitis C is never transmitted by cough or any other airborne route.
It is transmitted by blood transfusion, intravenous drug abuse, tatooing by infected shared needles.
It mainfest mainly as liver problems, cause of cough may be something else.
Treatment of cough depend on presence of other clinical symptoms and duration of cough.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Antibiotics like augmentin/erythromycin for 5-7 days depending on other symptoms presence.(prescription drug).Cough expectorant and steam inhalation provide relief.
-Avoid exposure to second hand smoke or air pollutants.
If the cough still doesnt recedes, may require certain further investigations like CT chest, throat swab, bronchoscopy.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks.
