Suggest Treatment For Severe Cramping In An Elderly Person
My 84 year old mother is on her 3rd day of a 15ml lactulose per her prescription. She is still not able to re-leave herself. She is experiencing severe cramping. Would administering the lactulose rectally possibly free her up? If so how do we do it? Would the dose change?

It is not recommended to use laxatives like lactulose in a patient who is having abdominal cramps with bowel not opened. Especially in elderly. You need to exclude possibility of intestinal obstruction. Please take your mother to a nearest hospital, so that they will prescribe something like morphine for pain and will investigate further.
