hello, I have a friend who is severely dehydrated but refuses to go to hospital. he has been drinking Gatorade for the electrolytes , and plenty of water. I read somewhere that the body also needs 2 other things to be replaced but I can not remember what I read, what are those 2 things and where would I find them to be able to replace them in the body
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Severe dehydration is best handled in the hospital with IV fluid and electolytes replacement. The best way to manage this condition is to treat and prevent cause.Possible causes may include: -Diarrhea and vomiting -Fever -Excessive sweating -Increased urination. The only effective treatment for dehydration is to replace lost fluids and lost electrolytes. This treatment depends on age, the severity of dehydration and its cause. I will suggest you convince him to go the hospital for evaluation.A serum elctrolyte will be very useful to evaluate electrolytes imbalances caused by his condition. In the meantime, he will need more fluids than usual, reduce activity and eat healthy. There are just so many things to be replaced that i can not think of two things your are asking for.I will say if there are 2 things to replace, they will be fluids and electrolytes. Hope this will help you Best regards
