Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea In A 95 Year Old Male
I take care of my 95 year old father who is in failing health and bedridden. It is not unusual to deal with diarrhea, but today, all of a sudden his stools have become very viscous and sticky- not like any stool I ve ever seen- very hard to clean out of a bedside commode. What could be causing this?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your father have symptoms of severe diarrhea which seems to be due to disturbance of electrolytic balance . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like food intolerance , food allergy , bacterial or viral infection , parasitic infection or inflammatory bowel disease. Need not to worry. Take oral rehydrating solution as well. You should take small and frequent meals rather than large meals at a time. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and ornidazole , albendazole , omeprazole along with loperamide. You should eat light and non spicy , eat fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fruits like banana.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
