Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea, Vomiting And Fever

Husband hunting in Idaho, utilizing camper so not roughing it, called today and wanted suggestions. He is experiencing extreme flattulence and diarrhea for 5 days now. Can barely leave the restroom. I called our nurse and she said just drink lots of water and come home if vomiting and fever. He has tried Pepto bismo, Beano, and trying to eat light - he is 73 years old and is in good shape. Has had some IBS issues in the past, just not this bad.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe diarrhea, vomiting and fever which seems to be due to irritable bowel syndrome, intolerance to certain food items, overgrowth of bacteria in the small bowel, giardiasis or some medications.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you avoid food like dairy products, drink warm water and do light exercises and eat light and non-spicy food. Drink warm milk with half spoon of turmeric powder. If the condition doesn't get well then consult a gastroenterologist for proper examination. The doctor may prescribe H2 blockers, proton pump inhibitor along with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications.
