Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you. I have a 93 year old mother living with us. She experienced extreme dizziness last week Thursday, but is slowly improving. She takes Blood pressure meds (100 Atenolol at night; 20 Lisinopril in morning. She was in retirement community and felt lots of stress. Dr. prescribed Xanax, which she did not take. Now she is with us and seems less stressed. We took her blood pressure and she is way down to 99/66. Also, she is taking l/2 of her Xanax .25 pill. Have not had chance to call her doc. We think we need to take her off her B/P meds. Please advise.
The dizziness she is experiencing is likely due to low blood pressure associated with the use of multiple anti-hypertensives and Xanax. The dosage of anti-hypertensives should be reconsidered in this case. However, please be advised not to discontinue the medications without consulting her treating physician. Stopping the medications can dangerously cause rebound hypertension. Please be advised to follow up with her physician/urgent care to consider the need for medication/dose changes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
