Suggest Treatment For Severe Dry Cough

HI. i have had a really bad, dry cough since a little more than 2 weeks..when i have to cough its usually 4 times and the last 2 almost make me sufficate. i dont have any mucus, its very dry. dont think i have a fever. ive been taking naproxen twice daily, and ginger lemon honey teas. had a swollen tongue for a few days but thats better now. a friend suggested anti histamines as she thought it was an allergy (she is a nurse practicioner) but that hasnt helped.
