Suggest Treatment For Severe Dryness In Mouth

Yes, thank you for taking my question. I have been having serious dry mouth over the past 2 months. I thought it was the levocytrizine, so stopped it, and take Allegra now instead, but not every day. That is the only new medication I have taken recently, and took it for about 3-4 mo. daily. I have tried the Biotene gel without any relief. I am always well-hydrated as I love water, and drink it all day long. Have also been on synthroid.100mcg for 30 yrs and Estradiol/Vivelle tansderm patch for approx 4 yrs.
I am a 66 female in excellent general health, with a healthy diet.

Any information would be appreciated very much!
Thank you!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain dryness of mouth or xerostomia in your case is due to side effect of medicine as anti-allergics like levocetrizine and allegra both can cause dry mouth, along with it there is also thyroid problem seems to be there to you as you take synthyroid and it also causes dry mouth..

Nothing to worry consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can alter the dose of the medicine and can relieve dry mouth.

As of now suck on sugar free chewing gums as it helps in stimulating saliva flow..
Take saliva substitutes containing methyl cellulose that can be instilled multiple times in mouth for lubrication..
Keep drinking plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
