I am a 61 yr old female being treated for an ear infection with levofloxacin for 10 days and still had the infection when seeing the dr. after 7days. Now he wants me to take ciprofloxacin for 10 days and also am taking prednisone 10mg. for a four day treatment. I am wondering if I should not be on an antibiotic that is more for the treatment for an ear infection in adults, like amoxacillon ? Since starting the prednisone my ear is feeling greatly better after only a few days. I would appreciate some input before starting this antibiotic. Thank you in advance. Kathy
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood the history. You are absolutely right as you have already received Levofloxacin, there may not be any point in giving Ciprofloxacin as they belong to the same group of medicines. Amoxicillin will be a better choice for your ear infection. Please talk to your Doctor frankly.
At the same time get prescription for the antihistamine, anti-inflammatory medicines and consult your ENT so as to see whether there is a fungal infection or not.
I hope this answer helps you.
