November 1 I flew commercially to Washington, D.C., from Los Angeles. My left ear had severe pain during landing but subsided once I got to where I would be staying. The next morning, I was so dizzy, I nearly fell and had to hold on to something. I was also nauseous. My hostess gave me her prescription Meclizine. I don t know the dosage, but the pill was small, white, and encoded with MCZ 12. I took the pill and in a short time felt sleepy. I slept for several hours and when I awoke, the dizziness had lessened. I stayed up for about four hours, took another pill, and slept through the night again. I wasn t as dizzy or as nauseated when I awoke the next day, although I stayed close to home. I did not have any pain on the return flight November 5. The dizziness returned a day or so after I got home, and I went to see a doctor. The ear canal looked clear--no drainage or redness--and the doctor recommended I take Meclizine which has not helped. The dizziness is getting stronger, especially at night. My question: Is there a difference between generic Meclizine and brand-name Antivert? I ask this because I usually have to take brand-name drugs when the exact dosage is required as with Zoloft. Tonight I plan to take the same medication my hostess gave me again to see if it is more effective. Any thoughts on generic Meclizine versus brand-name such as Antivert? Thanks for your help.
