Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About once a year I have a very painful condition in one ear or the other. I don t swim and can t figure what causes it. The pain is enough to keep me awake and I use cotton ball to press into it and then aspirin or Ibuprofin for the pain. Usually lasts about 2 or 3 days, then goes away.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe ear pain which is because of ear infection which sometimes remain persistent and leads to recurrent otitis media and ear pain. You should do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic means to check level of infection. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin .) at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
