Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had ear pain for three days. I went to minor emergency clinic today. the doctor tried to irrigate my ear to clear up wax build up, however was not successful in the removal. Then she tried to use a small instrument which did not work at all. after this I was told to get Debrox and use it until the wax was removal. After several applications of Debrox I noticed tonight a small amount of blood inside my ear. should I continue to use the Debrox or not.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in ear . Well the symptoms you mention in query can be due to causes like excess wax buildup, ear infection, foreign body impaction inside the ear or perforated eardrum . Sometimes when upper respiratory track infection when left untreated or when occur again and again spread to ear through eustachaian tube and causing pain . In some cases the tympanic membrane get ruptured due to q-tip , in that case it can be treated with surgical procedure like tympanoplasty. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test , examination with otoscope and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin .) at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory . For now do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear . Keep your ear dry and cover it while bathing.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
