Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Severe Fatigue, Nausea And Dizziness
I have been experiencing intense fatigue for a few months (was treated for insomnia now able to sleep but never feel rested). Lots of missed work (impact on income adding to stress). Intermittent nausea, and low appetite. Yesterday sleep 17 hours. Today nausea and dizzyness (along with rapid heart rate). What gives?
It seems that you might be having anxiety and depression and the sleep problems might be related to this. In this case, it is difficult to treat insomnia alone, you need to treat the possible causing condition.
If you get treatment for anxiety and depression (same treatment), you might see improvement in sleep amount and quality as well.
I would recommend you to see your doctor so he can do a check to rule out anxiety and depression and if you score high for them (questionnaires) he will need to give you treatment with an SSRI drug like paroxetine or citalopram.
On the other hand some examinations to rule out other conditions might be good, for example sleep tests (polysomnograme) to rule out sleep apnea and TSH blood test to rule out problems with thyroid as thyroid can affect the way we handle stress.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
