Suggest Treatment For Severe Fever And Vomiting In A Child

Hi, My daughter is a year and almost a month old. Her temperature is at 96.7 and she has thrown up three times today. She is acting really fussy, the same way that she acts when she gets really sleepy. I dont know what this could be. It came out of no where this morning and she was perfectly fine all day yesterday. The biggest problem here is that her insurance has ran out at the beginning of this month. Im in the process of purchasing her some insurance and am in even more of a rush to do so now with this sudden illness. What could this be and should i keep ger hydrated with pedialyte and feed her the BRAT diet for 24 hours to see if it will pass?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child is having symptoms of severe fever and vomiting which is a sign of viral infection. It seems to be due to poor and compromised immunity of body. It could be coinfection by bacterial organism. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to give your daughter short course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or azithromycin for 5-7 days along with antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. Give child diet rich in fluids and give oral rehydration solution as well. You should use room humidifier. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined. Get blood and urine test done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antiviral medications.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
