Suggest Treatment For Severe Hair Fall And Weight Gain When Having TSH Of 10.59
My TSH IS 10.59 and free T4 is 8.74 and have thyroid enlargement ultrasound done shows both lobes enlarged rt lobe hyperechoic at lower pole?nodule T3 normal.should i take eltroxine and have i to continue it lifelong?Have severe hairfall and wt gain about 6 kg in last 6 months.Since last few yrs i had enlarged thyroid i used to do TFT reports were within normal range.I am 46 and have menorrhegia

Based on the TSH value and the symptoms of weight gain, hair fall and menorrhagia in my opinion you should be taking Eltroxine (Dose needs to be decided based on the weight and will need a physical consultation). Also, have regular follow ups with treating physician.

Clearly you are suffering from hypothyroidism as evidenced by high TSH, thyroid lobes enlargement, hair fall, weight gain, and menorrhagia. The following are my recommendations to those who come to my clinic with similar complaints :
1) Eltroxine is to be taken as tab. Eltroxine 50micrograms daily once before food.
2) Duration depends upon the course of disease. Some people may require life long. It depends upon how your body responds to Eltroxine.
3) Eltroxine is to be taken on empty stomach.
