Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor, I am 31 year female. All of a sudden I am facing severe hair fall. My TSH value is 7.3 and have some Iron deficiency as per my latest blood test reports. Doc has prescribed Thyronorm 25mcg, Essvit (biotin), Iron tablet and Pantoplex tablets. I have been consuming these medicines since 1 month, However I don t see any decrease in hair fall. My periods are regular. I don t understand what is going wrong. I am really worried. Is this some alarming sign? There is no hereditary baldness in my family - both paternal and maternal side. I used to have real good hair before.
Hello, Hypothyroidism causes a considerable hair fall. so it is necessary to control it effectively. When on treatment with thyroxine tablets, if the dose is adequate (which has to be calculated based on TSH, T4 values and bodyweight & height), then TSH is well controlled with a value of 3 to 4 mU/L. Your TSH value is very high, it needs to be brought down to above mentioned, then hair fall will slow down and later stop. So it is essential to increase the dose to 50 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks to see if desired level is achieved. Thanks
