Hello,

Headache after brain surgery is known as post craniotomy headache (PCH). In most people, it lasts a short duration like less than 3 months from the surgery.
But in some people, this headache can be long lasting or chronic. Risk factors include the following:
1) Female gender
2) Young age
3) Preoperatively existent pain
4) Anxiety
5) Depression

The following are treatment options:
1) Non pharmacological treatment includes cool packs, cryotherapy and head dressings.
2) Patient controlled analgesia with morphine or fentanyl is highly effective.
3) NSAIDs can also be used as pain relieving medications.

Please discuss the above mentioned methods of treatment with your surgeon and initiate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
