Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
In 2010 I had non cancer amelioblastoma something like that in my jaw. They did a jaw bone resection to remove the cells that caused the growth. In 2013 I had a bone graft from my hip to replace the jaw bone that was removed. In the past month and a half I have had a lot of pain around my jaw I was given 2 different rounds of antibiotics but now it's flaring up again. Had a CT done and they couldn't see anything abnormal. X-ray around the titanium plate and screws don't show anything abnormal. Something is causing this severe pain they keep saying it's an infection both times but what could be causing the infection because it causes so much pain all around my jaw I can't stand it even cry and I've been a week off my second round of antibiotics and I'm feeling the pain again like it is flaring up again.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the symptoms of severe pain in jaw after bone grafting and placement of titanium plates and screws is commonly due to infection at the site of surgery.. However it can also be due to progressive complication like Osteronecrosis..'
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests and x rays can help in diagnosis and will be treated accordingly..
As of now you can take painkillers like Ibuprofen or Tramadol to relieve pain and do cool compresses over the jaw..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
