Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I see my dentist on a regular basis. My last appointment in July 2016 was for a cleaning. My dentist has noticed that I grind my teeth while I'm asleep. He always asks me about jaw pain or soreness. Right after my last cleaning, I woke up with very slight pain and soreness on the left side of my jaw. Is this something that needs to be looked at immediately or can this wait until my next cleaning in January 2017?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe jaw pain after scaling which seems to be due to bruxism and increased tooth sensitivity which is very common after scaling. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon once and get complete examination done and start treatment after complete examination. You should use night guard if it is due to bruxism and you tooth paste which can seal dentinal tubules to avoid pain such as Sensodyne. Avoid sharp and sticky food and take light and soft diet. You should maintain complete oral hygiene by brushing , flossing and use of antimicrobial agent.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
