I was diagnosed several years ago by DR. Swartz with both Narcolepsy & sleep apnea. I have been on medication that is causing SEVERE leg cramps. IF i take the med., I can t drive because of the pain and if I don t take the med ( provigel I can t stay awake but I can not get an appointment with Dr. Swartz until July or Aug. Is there another doctor who would see me?
You are on medications (Provigel) that are causing you severe leg cramps. You have been diagnosed by your treating doctor to be suffering from sleep apnea and narcolepsy. You are experiencing side effects of the medicine you have been taking. Muscle cramps, backpain, changes in muscle tone, muscle tightness and spasms can occur with regular use of the medicine you are taking. Take adequate quantity of water and fluids, stay well hydrated. Hydration helps to eliminate or reduce these effects.
You are suggested to get clinically examined for any improvement in sleep apnea and narcolepsy. You may need a change of medicines or adjustments in your prescription may be needed. Yes, it is better to get examined by another doctor (GP) if you are unable to connect with your treating doctor at present. Get treated before symptoms worsen.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
