Suggest Treatment For Severe Leg Pain After Driving

I have had minor leg discomfort ( behind my calf / knee area) for the past week... My concern is I flew last Friday, and only walked ( exercised) one day since flying... Normally I workout 5-7 days / week. The past two days have been spent in a car driving from NY to FL. Today leg pain worsened, and now have pain ( sharp) in my hip ( on same side) Am I worrying over nothing? I do take Synthroid & allergy medication.. But that is all. I am 45 years old, athletic - 144 lbs, 5 8 tall.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Being an athlete, a regular exerciser, the pain you had after a gap in your routine work outs, with the stress of long drives over a considerable time (2 days ). It seems to be due to over strain to the part and would be relieved by rest, some hot fomentation, calcium supplement and probably a couple of pain pills. The sharp pain in hip, could be of same origin and would resolve with same management. But if it doesn't, you have to consult an Orthopedic doctor for specific investigations and treatment of possible sciatic pain.

Thanks,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
