I ve seen a orthopedic spine specialist that had an MRI done and diagnosed me with lower spine arthritis. He prescribed Gabapentin, 300 mg, 3 per day. I have not, and do not, have much back pain, but I do have pain (more of a dull aching) in both legs when I sleep. Every night after about 3 hours of sleep, I m awakened by the leg pain, and get very little additional sleep. The gabapentin didn t help much, if any, and I had significant side effects (loss of concentration, passing out), so my doctor told me to stop the gabapentin, but did not prescribe any additional treatment, He has explained that there are injections for severe cases, but has not recommended them for me. I have an appointment with the spinal doctor this coming week. What is the best course of action for my pain situation with my legs, which are have been peventing me from getting more than a few hours of sleep per night. should I try to see a pain specialist or other type o physician?. My quality of life has declined in the last few months to the point that I don t have energy or feel well enough to do anything. I am 72 years old, and otherwise in good health. I will appreciate any advice.
