Suggest Treatment For Severe Leg Pain While On Rosuvastatin
I m been taking Crestar for years and never had a problem...I recently switched to Rosuvastatin Calcium same strength but been having horrible pain in my legs and other joints,,,, I can hardly stand up when I ve been sitting or get out of the car after driving....Do you this might be causing this problem....it only started in the last couple of months.... Thank you...
Statins like Rosuvastatin are commonly prescribed to lower the high blood cholesterol levels.
Generally they are safe, however they may cause myopathy (muscle pain, tenderness and muscle weakness), stomach upset, and liver dysfunction.
Sometimes rhabdomyolysis (breakdown of muscle protein) and myoglobinuria (excretion of broken muscle protein through urine) may occur which can cause kidney damage.
Based on the history given you seem to have developed myopathy, so you should stop taking Rosuvastatin and request your treating doctor to prescribe an alternate effective but a safer medication like Cholestyramine to lower your high blood cholesterol level.
Hope this will help.
