Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. For the past week I have had severe pain in my lower left back. I thought it was a pulled muscle and was just laying on heating pad. When I am walking, I feel a catch from that spot and it just about puts me to the ground. But what if it s a kidney issue? How do I know what doctor office to make an appointment. I appreciate any guidance you can give. Thank you, Carol Kng
Kidney pain is not affected by movement or any certain position. Patients with kidney pain move a lot due to the pain (they are restless). Very likely your pain is muscular. This is because it is a pain that is worse when you walk.
Ibuprofen and paracetamol with it may help with the pain. Hot pads are good in some patients, others are better with cold pads. You may try and find which is best for you. Rest is not much recommended when having back pain though. You will need to try to be active as much as the pain allows you.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
