Suggest Treatment For Severe Muscle Pain

Hi, I went to a 2 day festival on the weekend (where I got drenched as it rained heavily both days) and the day after the festival finished I started feeling horrible muscle pain. Skin sensitive to the touch. Nose is absolutely fine, not blocked or runny but eye sockets hurt whenever I move them up, down, left or right. Eyes are also quite runny. I have also got this horrible cough which at first I thought it was just a chesty one but now seems to have turned into a dry cough with rare occasions of bringing up phlegm. It s the aching of the body that gets me the most. Feels like it s hard to move around. Is this a cold or flu? And what can I do to speed up recovery? Many thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

The symptoms you have mentioned of body pain, runny eyes, cough, and phlegm are most commonly seen with the common flu. Given that you were at a festival where it is possible that you contracted a virus infection, it is possible that this is causing the symptoms.

Viral fever is usually self limited and it will resolve by itself in some time. Here are a few things that can help with the viral fever.

Drinking lots of water
Taking warm showers
Steam inhalation
Sleeping more than 8 hours a day
Taking an over the counter painkiller or anti-pyretic. This can help reduce the fever and the body pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
