Suggest Treatment For Severe Osteoporosis In The Leg

I have been taking fosomax for 2 years and found out recently that it will not be effective unless I take 1200 mg of calcium. I have severe osteoporosis and infusion was recommended but insurance would not provide. This was the alternate drug choice by my physician. No one told me I needed to take calcium in order for this to be productive. I am in a lot of pain recently and I sometimes can t pick up my foot on the left side where the osteoporosis is the most evident. Can you please shed some light. Thank you

Hello,

Osteoporosis is a disease that makes your bone weak. People with the disease can break their bones too easily. Osteoporosis does not cause symptoms until you break a bone. You can keep your bones as healthy as possible by eating foods with a lot of calcium, such as milk, yogurt, and green leafy vegetables. Eat food with a lot of vitamin D, such as milk that has vitamin D added, and fish from the ocean. Take calcium and vitamin D pills (if you do not get enough from the food that you eat).

Be active for at least 30 min, most days of the week. Avoid smoking, limit the amount of alcohol you drink to 1 to 2 drinks a day at most. Your doctor usually suggests trying medicines called bisphosphonates first to treat osteoporosis. If those medicines do not do enough or if they cause side effects that you cannot stand, there are other medicines to try.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
