Hi,
Thanks for contacting with your health concern
1.
Prolia [denosumab] is a human monoclonal antibody for the treatment of osteoporosis and
giant cell tumor of the bone and contraindicated in people with low blood calcium [check with the calcium values]
2. since it can cause
severe pain in joints/bones]thus can flare up the condition, but since it is given only once 6 months I don't think it will be of much concern, however, talk to your attending Physician regarding the same.
PS. also with prolia, dental hygiene is a must [as
osteonecrosis of jaw] is common, so regular dental checkup is advisable.
3. So if interested in using prolia be under the regular supervision of your attending physician since he/she will be in a better position to alleviate the symptoms when arisen.
4. I at most can let you know about the preventive aspect of Osteoporosis:
i. The condition fits under Primary Osteoporosis: Post Menopausal [Type I] and progressing to Senile [Type II]
ii. Preventive Aspect:
Calcium intake; 1.0-1.5 g per day [banana, grapes, coriander, raisins, milk, green vegetables, lemon, mint, papaya, amla, guava, pineapple, turnip, tomato, apple, orange.
Moderate Vitamin D intake: [carrot, beetroot, spinach, radish, mint, Amalaki rasayan, soyabean, cucumber, cabbage, vitamin D fortified: pineapple/yogurt/milk/dry mushroom/banana/cod liver oil/sunshine.
Periodic assessment of skeletal status and bone mineral.
Single Drug which is extremely helpful and beneficial in
postmenopausal osteoporosis is 'Shatavari' which can be explained with the help of its active chemical constituent- Steroidal Saponins which are Phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens act as SERM's [selective estrogen receptors modulators] and stimulate osteoblasts and suppress osteoclasts and thus help in preventing bone loss.
PS. In modern medicine they also have SERM's [
raloxifene, idoxifene, tamoxifene], the action is similar as described.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
