Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I am currently waiting for lower back surgery, but for the last couple of years pain in my hips and legs has got much worse , sleeping in almost impossible. Unable to lie for more than 15 mins on my back or hips so now the pain is really bad . I rely on ibrofen paracetamol and in ex stream circumstances my tramadol which I don t like taking? I ve held off for as long as possible not to go back to my doctor but now I m not doing to well with the pain as its getting that bad . Can you give me some advice please
I would like to know the cause of your planned back surgery. Is it because of a lumbar column disk displacement?
I would recommend you to consult with a neurologist and consider the possibility to start on a therapy for chronic pain like antidepressants ( amytriptiline for example) or antiepileptic drugs( like pregabaline).
Atiepileptic drugs are more effective in neuropathic pain, due to herniated discs compressing the nerve roots.
Hope to have been helpful!
Greetings! Dr. Iliri
