Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Hip Of A Person With Scoliosis

I have no health ins which is why I m asking here. I just got married last week, we are waiting for the mirage license to go through whatever govt process it needs to go through then we will start the process of having me added to my husband s ins. Until then, I really can t afford too many doctors visits. First thing I think is important to mention is I have scholiosis. I m not sure of the particulars of the curvatures but I was diagnosed at 12. I am now 37. When I was diagnosed, the idea of spine surgery was thrown around a lot and ultimately didn t happen. My entire adolescence and into my young adult life I was extremely athletic. I was a competitive gymnast, swimmer and diver. Into my adult life I ran moderately. My entire adult career (15+ years) was in an office setting. In January of this year I accepted a job as a city carrier for the United States post office. This job was very physical. I waked anywhere from 8 to 13 miles per day, climb steep hills, and more stairs than I can count. The entire time I worked this job the temperature was below 0F. When I would get home at night I would shake uncontrollably, I would develop a fever, my back would spasm, I started getting intense sharp pains in my hip, and get physically ill. Then the next day I would do it all over again. I made it till march when I just couldn t take the pain anymore and had to quit. I have decided to make a career move to real estate and I am taking classes, to pay for the classes I took a job at a donut shop near by. This new job requires a minimum of 8 hour shifts, maximum hours of 13. I get usually 1 day off per week. Often I work till 3am and start the next day at 7am. We get no brakes. Sense I started this new job, the pain in my hip won t go away. The pain is on the outside of my right hip, it always feels like a dull pain. At about 4 hours into any shift at work the pain starts to feel like a stabbing pain. I sometimes need to swing my hip to get my foot. In front of my body to walk. Around hour 8 in any shift I need to support my weight on just about Anything I can find just to stay standing. When I m done working and I get to my car and sit, the pain is so intense my eyes water and I have to take a moment to catch my breath. A week ago my foot began hurting as well, it became extremely swollen and painful. I bit the bullet and went to a med express where I was told I have tendinitis right above the arch of my left foot and the doctor wanted me to take a week off of work. My foot now feels great but by hip pain is not going away. I ve been off my feet for just about a week now and I still have extreme hip pain. I need help standing. It hurts to sit and to lay down. And my entire leg tingles from time to time. Yesterday I sneezed, and sense then I have sharp stabbing pain 100% of the time. when I sit down, lay down, and stand up, the pain intensifies to the point that my eyes water. It is now taking at least a minute or longer to sit down or stand up because I have to brace myself for the pain and I constantly stop, catch my breath, and brace myself for more pain. The only reference I have to refer the pain to is, I have had pnumonia a number times. once I had it and my fever was very very high. When my fever spiked it felt like someone was pulling my bones apart at the joints. My right hip feels similar to the way my bones felt when I had that fever. As of now I am pretty much in constant hip pain that flows from bareable to excruciating. I have been reading symptoms online and the closest thing to my symptoms is bursitis. But I m not a doctor, so I m not sure. Can anyone tell me what I might have and if this is something I can wait till ins starts to start seeking treatment, or if it does sound like I have bursitis does it sound sceptic? Should I goto an er? Also my week off of work ends on Saturday. I don t feel like I should go back. I mean I still can t stand on my own with out support. I guess what is important right now is should I get to a hospital or wait for ins and find a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Severe pain in hip with scoliosis may be managed with following measures:
- Warm compresses over hip region
- Analgesic spray or ointment application containing Diclofenac, Capsaicin, Camphor etc
- Control of blood sugar and body weight
- Analgesic tablets with anti-inflammatory properties such as Etoricoxib, Tramadol hydrochloride or others
- Assisted physiotherapy

Surgery of joint replacement is the last resort of cure if all above fail to yield results.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
