Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sharp pain in my back below my left shoulder blade/ in between that and my spine, but it only hurts when I move those back muscles around in a certain way. I figure I just strained a muscle or something of the sort, and it isn t a huge deal, but it s increasingly uncomfortable during school and I m wondering what I can do to relieve that specific area of pain? I also have no money and just would like to know why this continues to happen to me
I am so sorry to hear about your condition of having back pain. This may be caused by improperly lifting something heavy, poor posture, sports injury or being overweight. You mentioned you are still in school, the pain may be caused when you carry your bag on one shoulder or your posture (when you slouch) during long hours in class. It may also be caused by your position when you sleep. This may cause you limitations in your movements and capabilities. Usually, the muscles around the area of pain tense up to protect that spot.
In my practice, I give to my patients, pain reliever, NSAID such as mefenamic acid or ibuprofen (Advil). Pain relieving patches may also help to relax the muscles. Stretching for 10 seconds 3x in the morning and evening may also help to loosen up tensed muscles as long as you are sure there was no trauma or injury in that area. Usually, back pain should resolve in less than a month of intervention, if it still persists, you may have to see your local physician since this platform is limited and I won't be able to do a complete physical examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
