Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Heels

Age 79, caretaker for wife, experiencing relatively sudden onset pain in left heel - hard to bear weight. Have been taking 50mg trazadone for sleep. I take it about 9:00 PM along with 3mg of melatonin. The heel pain seemed to start about same time I started trazadone. Pain is worse late in day. This has continued for about 2 - 3 weeks now. Some days better than others. I do use alcohol - 2-3 oz. whiskey late afternoons most days. I have never smoked.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Here without physical examination it is difficult to give one specific diagnosis

Bursitis, tendinitis, plantar fascitis, ankle sprain, arthritis like causes has to be ruled out

For that physical examination and local part x ray needs to be done .... For primary work up

ESR also should be done

Ibuprofen can be prescribed If inflammation or strain is the cause

Avoid weight bearing on heel for prolonged duration

Consult orthopedic surgeon for examination and accordingly further treatment plan

Take care

Hope your concern solved
