Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Knee

hi, I recently developed pain around the area of my knee. It seems to be behind, below and above the knee. the night before i worked 14 hours. my feet and legs were sore. in the morning i got up and could barely walk. I am wearing compression socks and a knee brace and it helps me move and walk. That was almost a week ago. i also endured severe pain in my shoulder some nights earlier. The next morning and days it was extremely sore. Also, my back on the same side starts to get a muscle cramp when i move. I was thinking it might be because of my knee but I ve experienced this cramping several times before the knee situation. sorry about poor punctuation. Lisa

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the knee joint and area around it in women can be caused by different reasons.

It can be because of some trauma which goes unnoticed, during exercise, increased body weight in middle aged women specially that results in osteoarthritis when accompanied with swelling in the joint.

Whenever a patient comes to me with such complains first thing after doing a thorough examination and history taking I advice them to undergo some blood tests (TSH levels, CBC, ESR) and imaging tests like X-ray of the involved joint.

I would suggest you see a rheumatologist and get all the tests that are advised by the doctor and follow his advice.

After proper diagnosis you will be adviced to take medicines to relieve the pain as well as taking sufficient rest is important as well.

Later with the help of physiotherapist’s advice on exercising you will see improvement in your condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
