Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Knee

I sleep on my side (because it helps my breathing) but I am often awoken by severe pain in my right knee. Actually it is below the knee and to the left. The pain is to the point that I can t move it until the pain subsides and it is slightly swollen. Any ideas what this might be?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please let me know if you ever fall down, or if any accident or injury happened? And how much swelling is there? Knee pain is a common problem with many causes, from acute injuries to complications of medical conditions.knee pain is a common problem that can originate in any of the bony structures compromising the knee joint, knee cap, ligaments and cartilage of the knee. Knee pain can affect people of all ages, and home remedies can be helpful unless it becomes severe.

Treatments for knee pain are as varied as the conditions that can cause the pain. Home treatment may help relieve pain, swelling and stiffness. Take rest and protect an injured or sore area. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Medications might be prescribed to treat an underlying medical condition or for pain relief. Physical therapy sometimes strengthening the muscles around the knee will make it more stable and help guarantee the best mechanical movements.

This can help avoid injuries or further worsening of an injury. Injections injecting medications directly into your knee might help in certain situations. The two most common injections are corticosteroid injections that can help in arthritis and other inflammation of the knee.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ankur
