Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Right Knee After A Surgery

I am having severe pain in my right knee. It is very painful to walk. I did not fall or slip or twist it. It does not appear to be swollen. It is painful to touch along the left side of my right knee. I had major back surgery last fall & I remember they mentioned something about blood clots. It s been about 1 week now. My doc office is closed & im not sure what to do.

hi,

thank you for providing the brief history of you.

As you mentioned you had a major back surgery, for what the surgery was performed is to be known first. Also, taking to the pain the knee on the inner side, it could be a ligament sprain. Which can be assessed by a special orthopedic tests as well, to confirm the same, the MRI will be of guidance. Also to provisionally understand the biomechanics of this injury and pain, you have already mentioned about the major back surgery. Post back surgery, there is a need of physical therapy to strengthen the muscles of the spine, core, pelvic floor, lower limbs as a whole. If it is not performed, then, the weight bearing joints like the hip, knee and ankle, which are below the waist line takes new biomechanical movements of weight shifting to avoid the strain on the surgical site in the back. Due to the weight shifting there is possibility of ligament sprain and and then the pain and inflammation. For the same pain of your current, you can undergo a physical therapy session like, Therapeutic ultrasound therapy and TENS therapy to reduce the pain and inflammation. Post which the exercises will be advised to further strengthen the muscles. On later stages performing the exercises will help you keep maintaining the muscular strength and avoid the pain in future. 99% of cases i have seen with similar issues recover and the functions are normal in day to day life.

I wish the same for you
