Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Shoulder

Have been dealing with right and left shoulder pain over the last six months to a year. Have had cortisone shots from time to time in the right shoulder, but now the same issue with the left side. Is there a heat / cold pad treatment that may help relieve the pain?

Hello,

Your shoulder pain is to be evaluated as what is actually causing it. A few important causes are osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, reactive arthritis, rotator cuff tears, or calcific tendinitis. Treatment options depend upon the cause of pain. Excessive shots of cortisone are not advisable as they may lead to ligament atrophy.

I advise NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Naproxen for pain relief are advisable. Mild shoulder stretch exercises are very helpful in reducing the pain. A physical therapist can be consulted for the same. An orthopedic surgeon can be seen for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
