Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Shoulder

My husband has severe pain in his shoulder when hi sits up strait or drives. His doctor has put him on steroids and nerve medication and believes it is caused by inflammation in the C7 portion of his spine. My husband has been on the medication a week with NO change and is getting very depressed. This is his second week off work and we are all worried if we do not find an answer soon his sick days will run out.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to cervical spondylosis and may need a while to get normal.

Using a neck collar may be helpful along with OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. as well as muscle relaxants like tizanidine or orphenidine.

If pain is severe more potent analgesic like tramadol or nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin or duloxetine may be needed.

Pain medicine specialist as well as neurosurgeon may be consulted if symptoms persist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
