Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Toe

What could cause sudden toe pain? I have not injured my foot in any way but I have severe pain when putting weight on my foot under the third toe. This came up suddenly and has been going on for 4 days. It is painful to walk and worse after exercise.
