Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Upper Rib Area

Good evening, two days ago, I was messing around with my nephew (play fighting) and fell backwards/left side onto my solid oak coffee table. I have a line bruise which shows the angle of the table, I am also in severe pain in my left upper ribs just under breast and left lower flank. It s agony if I cough or sneeze or even laugh. I m guessing I ve cracked or bruised a rib or two and there isn t I can do anything other than rest and take ibuprofen, but as the pain is in two areas, I wanted to check. I am struggling to get up from sitting down. I also don t want to waste my GP s time. I understand I have to look out for other symptoms that can indicate pneumonia or other chest/lung problems. Many thanks, Angela

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a costochondritis.

As of now you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
