Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain On The Spine Along With Swelling

I had surgery for a herniated L5 disc three months ago. I was recovering well but this last week started having severe pain at the base of my spine and a bulge or swelling in that area. The swelling seemed to go down after laying, or overnight. This morning I had much more severe pain and swelling and have not been able to move without help. What do you think could be causing this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It can be due to the postoperative collection or a new onset hematoma.

Consult your spine surgeon and get an MRI scan for further assessment.

As of now, you can take analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
