2nd episode of sudden onset of severe allergy hives feeling like fire ants. Rapidly spread with initial onset due to not resisting to scratch...followed by profuse sweating, facial swelling, a d shortness of breath...immediately folled by extreme abdominal pain, which I compare to labor pain, extending into thighs. Level 10 pain rating. First episode sent me er and steroids and pain meds and zofran were administered. They asked if I had taken Benedryl, which I had not. Nause was also a major issue, though no vomiting. I believe it was secondary to the extreme pain and itching. Tonight, the same occurred. Sudden onset of extreme fire ant itching. This time, I had Benadryl on hand and Xanax and zofran, all of which I took immediately when I realized what was happening. The pain that I compare to labor set in almost immediately, leaving me writhing in excruciating pain and bringing me to tears, weakness, sob and nothing I could physically do would bring relief. I had basically the same meds to treat this at home except pain management but I suffered through. The meds have kicked in and the pain is subsiding. My gut tells me, this rogue, unexpected allergy reaction (nothing different injested) followed by the specific pain is caused by something that is obvious to someone in the medical profession. I am 50 years old, aware of my allergies and have now experienced this extreme situation twice. I sincerely need to find a cause and resolution because it scares me to think this could happen when I m not lucky enough to be at home with access to proper meditation. It would be life threatening if I were driving. I plan to follow up promptly Monday with my pcp, but any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. The pain led the er doc to do an ultrasound of productive orgams, which showed no abnormalities. Sudden onset, allergic reaction followed by extreme pelvic pain...any connections or suggestions much appreciated. Not gas and no obvious allergens. Desperately stumped.
