Suggest Treatment For Severe Pins And Needles Sensation After A Back Surgery
9 moths ago back opp. fusion L5 .after opp have numness across back of my bum.running down left leg num. on hip to lower leg to foot. Sever pins and needls across front of foot then a sharp cutting feeling every 15 to 20 min. Dr has put me on lirica. driving me mad, is it going to get better,? or what ealse can i do

The causes of your pins and needles and numbness along the leg and foot is are:
1) Failed back surgery syndrome
2) Sciatica or sciatic compression
3) Spinal canal stenosis
4) Herniated intervertebral disc
The following are few treatment options:
1) NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Aceclofenac taken twice daily can be used along with muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone
2) Pregabalin (Lyrica) 75mg once daily for 1 month
3) Opioid analgesics like Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol can also be used for pain relief
4) Physical therapy would relieve pain by strengthening back muscles.
If the pain doesn't subside, you have a steroid and local anesthetic injection into the lumbar facet joints. If all the above measures fail, you may discuss the surgical options with your orthopedic surgeon.
