Hi Doctor, I have rectum bleed and sometimes with mucus for 2 years. Doctor said it was the rectum inflammation. I had colonoscopy. Doctor said the other part of my intestine up the rctum is fine. He said if the inflammation spread to the upper part, it could turn to cancer. Anything I should do now? Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Rectal inflammation could be due to proctitis.
I would to suggest to consult the gastroenterologist and undergo sigmoidoscopy and take biopsy for exact diagnosis.
Following treatment will helpful:
Steroid in enema form for 6-8 week
Mesalazine suppository for long term management
Tablet revital
Drink plenty of warm water.
Capsule sporolac
If above treatment will not responds then drugs like azothiprin, methotrexate, Infliximab can be useful
Hope this may help you
