Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you and this is the first time I have ever ask a general question on-line. I had a major sinus infection back in 1st part of March. Went to CVS minute clinic....(because my MD could not see me for two weeks) and she put me on Augmentin with nose spray. Took Augmentin for 10 days. Felt somewhat better....a week later I started getting back major sinus infection again. Again could not see my regular MD for another 2 weeks so went back to CVS minute clinic....she again put me on another antibiotic....doxycycline....and pearl drops for cough. I finally got over this which basically lasted 3 to 4 weeks. About two weeks ago...(I feel like my body at age 64 if falling apart...LOL)....while I was at the beach, I got a UTI.....took AZO until I got back home. Finally took a urine specimen to my MD lab and did not hear from him until the next day which I got an email saying I do have a bladder infection and he put me on CIPRO. Now, my question would be and thank you for taking time to answer my question....would or could this UTI come from being on both antibotics for my nasal infection....and the future, what can I do to maybe prevent this by being on such much antibotics. Thank you Bonnie
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
What I understand is that you are getting recurrent infection. This means you have to boost up your immune system. I feel like there is an underlying immune deficiency. It can be due to nutritional causes, diabetes mellitus or any immunodeficiency disorders.
Your blood investigations need to be done. I would recommend you to have a complete blood count, fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, TSH. Recurrent sinus infections can be due to incompletely treated infections. If you are allergic to some environmental agents you can get recurrent sinus problems.
Since you got an additional infection in a distant site, I am thinking of underlying diabetes or immunodeficiency. Kindly consult a physician and do a basic work-up.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Meera Rajeev
